Concomitant Nucleation of Polymorphs on Engineered Surfaces
Crystals of a chemical compound can exist in more than one structure, which is known as polymorphism. In substances which have multiple crystal forms the relative nucleation rates of the different forms as a function of supersaturation play an important role in determining the final form observed. In bulk solutions crystallization it is difficult to observe the relative nucleation rates of forms because they often quickly transform or are present in very small numbers.
