Raman Spectroscopy for In-line Monitoring of Pharmaceutical Hot-melt Extrusion Processes
The aim of this presentation is to evaluate the suitability of Raman spectroscopy as a Process Analytical Technology (PAT) tool for the in-line determination of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) concentration, the polymer–drug solid state behavior, and molecular interactions during a pharmaceutical hot-melt extrusion process. Raman extruder-compatible probes were implemented in the different segments of the extruder barrel to monitor and understand the polymer-drug behavior throughout the complete extruder barrel. The advantages and challenges of Raman spectroscopy for hot-melt extrusion monitoring will also be discussed.
