The ability to study the chemical make-up of living and ex-situ biological tissue non-destructively is a valuable quality for any analytical diagnostic approach.  The combination of non-destructive and non-contact measurements, a weak signal from water, and the ability to provide spatial discrimination makes Raman spectroscopy a powerful tool for biomedical research and diagnostics.
