UltraSpec HT940

Kaiser Optical Systems has developed a proprietary high throughput (HT) process for volume phase holographic gratings. This new HT process achieves very high levels of film index modulation while maintaining low levels of noise and scatter. The HT process provides our customers with an unmatched combination of high diffraction efficiency, high dispersion, low polarization dependent loss (PDL), and broad spectral bandwidth.

HT gratings enable telecom’s customers to design more compact, efficient and better performing systems than ever before.

These gratings have immediate applicability for reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADMs) and wavelength selective switches as well as for mux/demuxes, optical spectrum analyzers, optical channel monitors and tunable lasers.

HT gratings are available in custom made form factors (several millimeters to more than 100 millimeters in length and width) and dispersions and can be designed to each customer's exact application with no large NRE charges. Technology Background:  HT - Designs at the “Sweet Spot”

  • VPH transmission grating technology offers for a given wavelength two grating frequencies where theoretically the diffraction efficiency of both ‘s’ (TE) and ‘p’ (TM) polarized light can simultaneously reach 100%.
  • At 1545 nm these grating frequencies are 940 lines/mm and 1350 lines/mm.
  • The UltraSpec™-HT940 and the UltraSpec™-HT1350 are designed at these grating frequencies respectively. This is why they offer minimized PDL and earn the HT designation.
